Ductless Mini-Split AC and Heat Pump Systems

When the mercury starts to rise, many homeowners look to energy-efficient mini split systems to cool their homes, not realizing how effective they can be all year-round!

What is a ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump and ductless mini- split Air Conditioner?

Ductless mini-split heat pumps, also known as “mini splits” and “zoned HVAC” are a type of heating and cooling system that does not need any ducts to condition the air. Where, a Ductless mini-split air conditioner does not need any ducts either but is only a cooling system.

For this reason. Ductless units can be the best solution for home add-ons and renovations that do not have existing ductwork. When extending or installing new duct systems is overly complicated or not practical, ductless units may be the ideal solution.

A ductless mini- split system is made up of two main parts: the indoor air handling unit and the outdoor compressor/condenser. The indoor unit is usually mounted high on a wall sends conditioned air directly into the living space and is directly connected to an outdoor compressor/condenser via a refrigerant line rather than a duct system.

Single Zone versus Multi Zone Systems

A Single zone system consists of one indoor unit and one outdoor unit which conditions the air in one living space. Multi zone systems have multiple indoor units that connect to the one outdoor unit. The multiple indoor units can be independently controlled to meet the temperature settings for the individual spaces.
